Noise emissions from sustainable transport: Modelling and in-situ monitoring

With a growing population and increasing demand for transport volumes, it is important to consider not only CO2 emissions and energy consumption for sustainable transport but also noise emissions. By introducing a model of the overall sound pressure level from a vehicle,one can estimate the emitted noise in different driving scenarios. This can in turn provide information on how noise emissions from the vehicle are influenced by a certain driving behavior or control strategy for autonomous vehicles. This project also aims to analyse the implementation of an in-situ monitoring of an individual vehicle’s contribution to the total noise emission along a driven route in an urban landscape. A combined use of a noise emission model and an in-situ monitoring technique could provide information about how much noise in relation to an estimated background noise level is being emitted from the vehicle.
