Straight line driving under the influence of environmental disturbances is the most common handling situation for passenger cars on motorways, yet it is one of the areas with little investigation done. The project aims at understanding the vague terms "directional stability" and "road-feel". To investigate the complex closed loop of the driver-vehicle-environment system, computer models are developed and implemented in a moving-base simulator, verified by measurements taken from the department's experimental vehicle.
