Enhancing current collection systems for multiple pantographs and higher speeds
A limiting factor for the speed of a train is the capability of its current collection system. The current collection capability depends on the interaction between locomotive, pantograph and catenary system. Multiple pantograph operation is increasing, for example 3-4 pantographs on a train. The actual velocity is often limited by certain specific parts of the catenary system such as tunnels, bridges, section overlaps etc. The aim is to investigate which parts that are limiting the speed, how serious they are, how they can be described mathematically, how they behave and finally some design suggestions will be developed.
